By car, the route runs south on NH 44 to Kurnool and then via Ballari to Hosapete and Hampi. The drive crosses into Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, so the interstate permit is added for a cab. By train, check IRCTC for the current overnight trains to Hosapete Junction (HPT); a Hospet to Hampi cab meets every train for the last 13 km.

3-day Hampi itinerary from Hyderabad

  1. Day 1 — Leave Hyderabad by 5 am, reach Hampi by early afternoon. Check in, visit Virupaksha Temple and Hampi Bazaar, and watch sunset from Hemakuta Hill.
  2. Day 2 — Full day: Royal Enclosure, Hazara Rama, Queen's Bath, Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables and the Vittala Temple. Optional sunset at Anjanadri Hill.
  3. Day 3 — Sunrise at Matanga Hill, a short morning at Achyutaraya Temple or Tungabhadra Dam, then drive back to Hyderabad by night.
