Anjanadri Hill rises above Anegundi on the north bank of the Tungabhadra, across the river from Hampi. It is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, and a whitewashed Anjaneya temple sits on the summit. The view from the top — boulder hills, paddy fields and the river — is one of the best sunsets around Hampi.
Steps, trek time and timings
- Steps: about 575, painted white, with covered sections and places to rest.
- Climb: 20–40 minutes up for most adults; allow about 1.5–2 hours for the round trip with time at the top.
- Timings: open from early morning to evening; the temple itself keeps shorter darshan hours.
- Entry: free.
Start the climb about an hour before sunset and carry a torch for the walk down. The last stretch passes between boulders and can be crowded on weekends and Hanuman Jayanti.
How to reach Anjanadri Hill from Hampi
From Hampi Bazaar, the hill is about 5 km away across the river. When the river is calm, a short ferry or coracle crossing connects to the Anegundi side; in the monsoon these often stop and the road route is much longer. A cab avoids the uncertainty and lets you combine Anjanadri with Pampa Sarovar, Anegundi village and Sanapur Lake in one trip.
Our Anegundi & Anjanadri Hill half-day tour does exactly that, from ₹1,499 per person.
Nearby
- Pampa Sarovar — a sacred lake linked to the Ramayana, at the foot of the hills.
- Anegundi — the older village of the Vijayanagara rulers, with the Gagan Mahal and quiet temples.
- Sanapur Lake — coracle rides and a calm sunset spot.
