Hampi's monuments are spread over about 25 km² in two main zones: the Sacred Centre around Hampi Bazaar and the Virupaksha Temple, and the Royal Centre near Kamalapur, with the Vittala Temple out along the river. The routes below follow the order a local driver would take you, so you see temples in the cool morning and finish each day at a sunset point.
Is one day enough for Hampi? One full day by cab covers the highlights. Two days lets you see both centres without rushing, and three days adds Anegundi, Tungabhadra Dam or the Daroji bears.
Hampi in 1 day
Start at 7 am, keep lunch short and use a cab — doing all of this by auto or bicycle in one day is very tiring, especially from March to May.
- 7:00 — Virupaksha Temple (opens 6 am) and a walk down Hampi Bazaar.
- 8:30 — Hemakuta Hill, the Sasivekalu and Kadalekalu Ganesha statues, and the Krishna Temple.
- 9:30 — Lakshmi Narasimha and Badavilinga, the giant monolith and the water-filled Shiva linga beside it.
- 10:15 — Underground Shiva Temple and Hazara Rama Temple, with its Ramayana friezes.
- 11:00 — Royal Enclosure: Mahanavami Dibba and the Stepped Tank, then the Queen's Bath.
- 12:30 — Lunch in Kamalapur.
- 13:30 — Zenana Enclosure: Lotus Mahal and the Elephant Stables (your Vittala ticket covers these the same day).
- 15:00 — Vittala Temple and the Stone Chariot. Battery vehicles run the last stretch from the car park.
- 17:30 — Sunset on Hemakuta Hill, looking over the Virupaksha gopuram.
Our Hampi Heritage Day Tour follows this route with an AC cab, from ₹2,499 per person. Or book a Hampi local sightseeing cab for 8 hours / 80 km from ₹1,800 for the whole car.
